Nailing the Headshot

Whether corporate or personal, the Headshot is all about YOU, front and centre. With no props or background to hide behind, this is why most people freeze at the mere thought of having a Headshot taken.

But here’s the good news… Headshots should be anything but uptight and formal. The best Headshots are where the subject looks confident, expressive, authentic and approachable. For that to happen, the photography experience must be a fun and playful one, a collaborative effort between subject and photographer.

Before you start thinking that you’re the only one in the world that takes a “bad photo”, allow me to let you in one something… nearly every person that I photograph tells me at the start of a session that the camera “doesn’t like” them. I’m here to tell you that it isn’t you. It’s the photographer’s job to bridge the gap between you and them, to help you feel relaxed enough to behave as if the camera isn’t there. When you are relaxed, the tension in your face, neck and shoulders drops away and you can be captured at your authentic best.

In a nutshell, every human being is beautiful and photogenic when a spontaneous emotion is captured. It’s all about closing the distance from the head to the heart.
