The aim of "When I Grow Up" is to photograph women in their 50s and upwards, from a variety of professions and walks of life, dressed in the characters of their childhood or engaged in an activity that they loved as children.
Why? Because I wanted to capture that forgotten world of unbridled joy and endless possibilities of childhood. The result: a composition filled with energy and emotion that grabs anyone that gazes at the images afterwards and makes them smile.
The shoot called for my subjects to access their inner child and be vulnerable. Therefore, the project needed to be a collaborative effort rather than me telling them what to wear and do. The payback for us both, photographer and subject, was a liberating and playful experience, with the images spontaneously capturing the beauty and emotion of the moment. Afterwards, they gave us cause to reflect on how much we hold ourselves back as adults from our natural state of "play".
Drop me a line if you'd like to be a part of this project.
